How to Side Load

HOW TO SIDE LOAD GAMES AND APPS---OUYA

Today I,m gonna show you how to side load games and apps to your brand new awesome android console the OUYA.

First off,
Not all the games or apps will work because they are not made to work with the ouya.... And that's the principal reason that I've decided to create this blog. My goal, is to make a list of every games and apps that works with the side loading. Some of them may have bugs, not work properly or simply stuck at the main screen.

OK but what is side-loading....
I'm gonna give you this straight... you don't really care about this as long as everything works!!!

Now is the fun and easy part, for the purpose, we gonna do the installation steps for dead trigger because I know this game work like a charm and it's pretty amazing too.

What you will need for side-loading 
Internet Connection
Apk+ Data of Dead Trigger
ES file Explorer File Manager
A computer and USB cable (for adding data into obb folder)

First steps
Before going any further, you will need the apks+data... since they are both free on the market, I don't mind giving you links for the files

Note: I don't encourage pirating apks and will never gave link for non-free games or apps.
If you want apk well do a search on google or back up your own!!! 

After downloading files, you will need to put them (only apk not data) to a cloud storage like Dropbox or Google drive. I suggest Google drive instead of Dropbox because Google drive accept bigger files.

Second steps
I don't know if you did see this but on the home screen of the Ouya, there's a sub-menu call make. Go there and select software and you will see there's a web browser (yep it was hiding there the all time).

here's the complete path
home screen--->make--->software---->web browser

Now that you're in the browser, the touch pad on the center of your controller will be your best friend :)

Press Y for a search and now type whatever is your cloud storage. ex: Google Drive
Enter your email and password then download the Es File Explorer (you'll see a little notice that your download has started)

Third steps
We are now closer to the end...
Go back to your home screen and go to Manage--->System---->Advance 

You will now see the default Advance Settings Android menu
go to Storage---->Downloads

You should see what you have previously downloaded. First select the Es File Explorer File Manager apk and install it. Congratulation, you have now your first side loaded app but we are not finished yet...

Fourth steps
Now it's time to connect your Ouya to your computer...

1. Connect the USB cable to your computer and the Ouya
2. Wait for the drivers to install
3. You have now access to your console files

You will now need to create a new folder called obb inside your Ouya
Go to internal storage/Android/create obb folder here's
You should see another folder there called data

Extract you previously downloaded Dead Trigger data (DTv1.7.0.data) to you desktop THEN drag n drop thecom.madfingergames.deadtrigger folder inside the newly created obb folder

Note: For some obscure reason you cannot just put apk's to the Download folder from your pc... It just wont show up in the storage of you console :S

Fifth and final steps
Go back to the software menu and select Es File Explorer File Manager 

home screen--->make--->software---->Es File Explorer

Inside the app you should see an option called Network, go there with your touch pad and select cloud. Then go to the bottom of Es File Explorer and select the plus button , you'll be prompt to select a services, select the cloud storage you have previously uploaded your Apk's

Enter the required information and then voila, you have access to the Dead Trigger apk (DTv1.7.0.apk). You can now select it and install it form the cloud :))))))))

Note : If you're prompted to select between OUYA installer or the google installer just go with the Ouya

Good now you can go back to software and play the game. You have to navigate trough the menu's with your touch pad. Before launching the quest I strongly suggest that you go to the settings and configure your controller. After that,  putting your graphic on high instead of ultra will give you some extra fps and the game will be much more smother. I have notice that the game MAY freeze one or two times but after that it works just fine.
